EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Eugene police arrested a 23-year-old man accused of stabbing his mother.

Spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin says officers went to a home where a man was reportedly suicidal and trying to start a fire. She says Joshua Maskal ran from the home when officers arrived, but a sergeant found him hiding under a truck about a block away.

Officers at the home found the mother with an injury not considered life-threatening. McLaughlin says Maskal suffered a laceration during the stabbing and joined his mother at the hospital early Tuesday.

The hospital released Maskal later in the morning. He was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
