PITTSBURGH (AP) - Winter weather has been causing traffic problems in some areas of western Pennsylvania, closing some roads and schools as well as a portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Turnpike officials said two tractor-trailers caught fire in a multi-vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon, closing westbound lanes between the Somerset and Breezewood interchanges. Three people were taken to local hospitals.
Several pileups on Interstate 70 shut down both lanes of the road in Washington County. Earlier, portions of Interstate 80 were closed in Clearfield County due to crashes, and the speed limit on the interstate in western Pennsylvania was dropped to 45 mph.
Some school districts closed for the day, others operated on a two-hour delay, and several changed afternoon dismissal times.
