SPRUCE PINE, N.C. (AP) - Officials with the Mitchell County school system say a water line break has forced them to close three schools early.

Local media outlets report Assistant Superintendent Chad Calhoun said Greenlee Primary, Deyton Elementary and Harris Middle schools closed around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Calhoun said the break occurred in Spruce Pine and school officials were told water would be shut off for at least four hours. He said he hoped the problem would be fixed in time for school on Wednesday.
