BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say they found the source of a green laser that was aimed at a Michigan State Police helicopter that was on patrol last week.

The Bay City Times reports (https://bit.ly/1RDn4l9 ) the helicopter was over Saginaw on Jan. 6 when the two people aboard noticed the laser and traced it to Bay City. The helicopter contacted troopers on the ground, who responded and found a man and woman in their 30s walking along railroad tracks.

They weren’t arrested, but evidence was collected. Police say a laser pointer was used and the case is being forwarded to federal prosecutors for review.

Lasers can temporarily blind pilots and it’s a federal crime to point lasers at aircraft.
