PITTSBURGH (AP) - The state Department of Transportation has lifted the weather-related 45 mph speed limit on Interstates 79 and 80 in western Pennsylvania, as snow moved out of the area, but bitter cold remained.

Many schools have delayed opening as road crews on Wednesday treated major highways for ice and cleared snow from side streets. Motorists around Philadelphia have been urged to slow down because of ice.

Icy conditions may have been to blame for a seven-vehicle pileup on Interstate 70 that was blocking eastbound lanes near mile marker 32 in Washington County during Wednesday’s rush hour.

The westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike were closed for more than four hours Tuesday evening between Breezewood and New Stanton. A four-vehicle accident was blamed. State police say seven people were hurt, none seriously.
