HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - The Hot Springs Board of Directors has hired a company to clean up the rubble left from a hotel fire nearly two years ago.

The Sentinel-Record reports (https://bit.ly/1OhQpgL ) that the board voted in a special meeting Tuesday to contract St. Louis-based Spirtas Wrecking Co. to clean up what remains of the Majestic Hotel.

Seven companies responded to the city’s request for proposals. Spirtas Wrecking Co. was the highest-rated firm and the low bidder at nearly $289,000.

Interim City Manager Bill Burrough says the cleanup will be paid with the city’s general fund.

The Majestic Hotel was destroyed in a fire in February 2014. The city bought it in August after failed attempts to have the previous property owner, Park Residences Development LLC, clean it up.
