PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Fire officials say it’s unclear when a Pawtucket day care center can reopen after the building was damaged by an evening blaze.

Battalion Chief Robert Neill says the fire at El Bebe Day Care on Beverage Hill Avenue broke out around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Employees were inside the building at the time of the fire. They were all able to safely evacuate. No children were there at the time.

Neill says firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to the roof, but that the building sustained minor structural damage inside.

Owner Luis Briceno told WJAR-TV that he’s notifying staff and parents of the 72 enrolled children that the day care center is closed for now.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious. Its cause remains under investigation.
