ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a female juvenile motel clerk was tied up a room and sexually assaulted by an Elizabeth City man.

Elizabeth City Officer Latoya Flanigan tells local media that 22-year-old Aeron N. Etheridge asked the clerk to bring him soap and towels on Monday night. Authorities say when the clerk entered the room, Etheridge locked the door, tied her hands together and raped her.

Police say the victim, who was allowed to leave after the assault, was treated at a hospital and identified her attacker to authorities.

Etheridge has been charged with second-degree sex offense and first-degree kidnapping.

Flanigan says Etheridge had been living at the motel off and on since he was released from jail in November on unspecified charges. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
