GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A Long Beach man was sentenced for driving impaired by drugs when he seriously injured a woman in a Long Beach head-on collision.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1Q4tdVO) a judge sentenced 45-year-old Kelly Dwayne Hammons to 25 years in prison Monday with seven years suspended. Hammons pleaded guilty to driving under the influence causing bodily injury in the September 2014 crash.

Police received a call about a driver whose vehicle was weaving. District Attorney Joel Smith says the caller saw the vehicle miss a curve, cross into oncoming traffic and hit another.

Smith says the woman in the other vehicle had serious neck injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Smith says a blood test after the crash showed Hammons had several drugs in his system including cocaine and methamphetamine.
