AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio man convicted in a fatal stabbing and a separate rape case has been sentenced to life in prison.

Court officials say 32-year-old Brock Tipping pleaded guilty in November under a plea deal to murder and rape. The Akron man was sentenced Tuesday in Akron and will be eligible for parole after 18 years.

Authorities say DNA evidence linked two crimes to Tipping.

Thirty-three-year-old Crystal Palm was found stabbed to death in her burning apartment in November 2014. Officials said the fire was arson.

A 35-year-old woman reported a month earlier that she was taken to an Akron home, beaten and then raped. She said the suspect then dropped her off where they met.

Tipping apologized, saying drugs were responsible for his actions.
