OGDEN, Utah (AP) - Attorneys for the city of Ogden say the state is liable for any claims made by a woman whose daughter was killed in a crosswalk in 2013.

Holly Wood sued the Utah Department of Transportation and Ogden City in October, saying they failed to improve safety at the crosswalk where her daughter, 32-year-old Tiffany Phipps, and several others died.

The Standard-Examiner reports (https://bit.ly/1ZkNSFv ) that the city, in answer to the suit, says it is not at fault because the state has jurisdiction over Wall Avenue, the street where Phipps was fatally struck by a car.

The Utah Attorney General’s Office has filed court documents denying any negligence and asking that the suit be dismissed under provisions that keep government entities from being sued.
