PALISADE, Colo. (AP) - Palisade will spend more than $1.3 million of grant funds to purchase land for a future sport shooting complex.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1l5ZX47) that Palisade’s trustees on Tuesday approved land contracts that will be used for the future sport shooting complex at Cameo.

Palisade received a $2 million grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for land acquisition and development. Mayor Roger Granat says the rest of the money will go to engineering studies and surveys for development.

The planned complex will have indoor and outdoor areas for archery, shooting and hunting education.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife area wildlife manager JT Romatzke says western Colorado needs safe areas for outdoor shooting sports. He says CPW has partnered with the city to help develop the shooting complex.
