MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Officials in Monongalia County say a winter storm combined with dozens of traffic accidents kept many students away from home for hours.

County 911 director Michael Wolfe says 55 accidents and 30 requests for motorist assistance occurred over a five-hour period ending at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported. The accidents caused widespread traffic jams and delays for school buses.

County schools Superintendent Frank Devono tells The Dominion Post (https://bit.ly/1l6ggxQ ) that dozens of students were stranded at school or on buses several hours after school was let out on Tuesday.

The newspaper reports that several West Virginia University basketball players who were stuck in rush-hour traffic ended up running on foot to get to the WVU Coliseum in time for a game against Kansas on Tuesday evening.
