AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A teenage boy has died in a vehicle fire in South Austin.

Austin-Travis County EMS says crews were called to the scene around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Austin police say a Jeep flipped and became engulfed in flames in an area typically used for off-roading.

An adult and two juveniles were able to escape uninjured, but the teenager in the front passenger seat was unable to get out.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. They don’t know if everyone was wearing a seatbelt.

The Austin Police Department is investigating.

The name of the teenager who died is being withheld pending notification of family. The teenager was a junior at Hays High School. A school district spokesman says grief counselors will be available to students Wednesday.
