IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa City manager is leaving his position to take on a similar role in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Iowa City Press Citizen (https://icp-c.com/1NagACa ) reports the Lawrence City Commission has named Tom Markus its new city manager. The decision was announced in a news release Thursday.

The commission will formally approve the employment agreement during a vote on Jan. 19, and Markus is expected to begin his new role in late March. Lawrence Mayor Mike Amyx has said the city received over 50 applications for the position, and a California-based consultant helped narrow the field.

Last November marked five years since Markus began working for Iowa City.
