GREER, S.C. (AP) - Berkeley County officials have a better idea what to expect as construction proceeds on a new $500 million Volvo car assembly plant in the Lowcountry.

Local media outlets report a delegation from the county met with Spartanburg County officials and Department of Commerce leaders on Wednesday and toured the BMW assembly plant in Greer that was built more than 20 years ago.

Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt told the Lowcountry group there were naysayers when BMW came to South Carolina.

Some people, he said, opposed the tax breaks that helped land the German automaker. Britt told the Berkeley County officials that people need to put their differences aside.

The Volvo plant northwest of Charleston is expected to employ about 2,000 workers during the next decade.
