COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A group of politicians and legal experts is discussing education as the means to ensure social equality in advance of Monday’s commemoration of Martin Luther King Day.

The panel discussion is scheduled Thursday at 6 p.m. at the University of South Carolina’s School of Law auditorium. It features former South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Toal and former Columbia mayor Bob Coble, an attorney with the law firm Nexsen Pruet.

Also participating are state Rep. Mia McLeod of Columbia and law professor Eboni Nelson. The annual event is free and open to the public.

It is sponsored by the Black Law Students Association.
