BROADWAY, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina troopers say two teens were killed and a third seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver as they walked along U.S. Highway 421 in Harnett County.

Highway Patrol Lt. Jeff Gordon said in a statement the teens had just bought drinks at a convenience store in Broadway around 11:15 p.m. Saturday and were walking home when they were hit.

Gordon says the car that hit the group drove away. Troopers are looking for evidence at the scene and reviewing surveillance cameras from nearby businesses to determine the make and model of the vehicle.

Authorities say 13-year-old Jennifer Schark and 16-year-old Kyle Straight were killed, while 14-year-old Steven Daniels is in critical condition at the hospital.
