PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh lawyer says he’s no longer seeking the Democratic nomination for attorney general, now that a longtime district attorney from western Pennsylvania is also running.

David Fawcett said Tuesday that running against Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala would split the western Pennsylvania vote against eastern Pennsylvania candidates.

The former Allegheny County councilman’s legal specialty is complex commercial litigation.

Democratic Attorney General Kathleen Kane could still run. She faces perjury charges, and is fighting the state Supreme Court’s suspension of her law license and a Senate exploration of whether to remove her.

To make the April 26 ballot, candidates need to submit 1,000 voter signatures, including at least 100 from each of five counties. That deadline is Feb. 16.
