GRANGER, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a Des Moines teenager whose body was found in a pond last month drowned.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1NXJ1XR ) that Sam Kemp Jr.’s official cause of death was freshwater drowning.

Polk County Medical Examiner Greg Schmunk says the 17-year-old had alcohol and marijuana in his system when he died, and there were no signs of physical trauma. Authorities do not suspect foul play.

Kemp’s body was found by law enforcement in a Granger pond Dec. 17. His family reported him missing days earlier after he failed to return from a Dec. 12 party at a large duplex near the pond.

Polk County deputies had busted the reportedly loud party, and Kemp was believed to be among the roughly 150 to 200 attendees who fled.
