SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A man convicted of beating a woman to death decades ago has been arrested on charges he assaulted and robbed an elderly mother-of-nine on New Year’s Day while she was out getting coffee.

Police say the 78-year-old Syracuse woman was in critical but stable condition Saturday with a bloodied head and face after being repeatedly punched and kicked. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and police arrested 42-eyar-old Willie McKee of Syracuse.

Authorities didn’t release the woman’s name. WSYR-TV reports she was attacked Friday during her usual morning walk to buy coffee.

McKee is charged with robbery, assault, resisting arrest and criminal possession of stolen property. He is being held Saturday at the Onondaga County Justice Center without bail. It was not clear whether he has a lawyer.
