SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Authorities say a federal marshal shot and killed a man after a confrontation in a Sioux Falls parking lot.

Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemens says federal authorities were preparing to arrest a 36-year-old man in the Lewis Drug parking lot about 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the suspect produced a handgun. Clemens says the suspect was shot once. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clemens says the suspect was wanted on a federal warrant and authorities were informed ahead of time that he was likely carrying a weapon. The suspect has not been identified but authorities do not believe he is a local resident.

Lewis Drug was shut down while police surrounded the parking lot. No other injuries were reported.

The FBI is investigating the case.
