BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota fire departments and non-affiliated ambulance and emergency medical services are encouraged to apply for funding under a federal grant program.

The money is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency 2015 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Central time on Friday, Jan. 15.

FEMA Acting Regional Administrator Robert Farmer says eight North Dakota fire departments and emergency medical services got about $1 million in grants last year. The money is for equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources.
