DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Florida woman was persuaded to skip her New Year’s Eve workout at her gym - but only because it was her 100th birthday.

Dozens of friends and relatives gathered at Medical Exercise Associates of Green Acres in Daytona Beach on Thursday to surprise Sylvia Henry with balloons, carrot cake and fresh fruit.

Henry, who lives in Ormond Beach, said she wasn’t used to seeing so many people in her gym. Her family told The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1OxUWZz ) that they pay for her gym membership every year as part of her Christmas present.

Crystal Henry of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who is married to Henry’s grandson, says the centenarian is a role model, inspiring the family to keep up their strength training as they get older.
