GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - A 48-year-old Gastonia man is accused of shooting his wife and killing his next-door neighbor on New Year’s Day.

Multiple media outlets report that charges against Joseph Zinna include first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Gastonia Police Sgt. Nancy Capistran says 62-year-old Mark Sheridan Sr. died at the scene Friday evening.

Police say Zinna went to his neighbor’s house and shot him more than once with a 12-gauge shotgun.

According to arrest warrants, Zinna also fired into a moving vehicle at his wife, Candy Zinna, who suffered wounds to her face and neck. Police say she was treated and released from a Charlotte hospital.

Police have not said which victim was shot first.

Zinna’s first court appearance is scheduled Monday. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.
