BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - A new grant will allow the Homestead National Monument of America to reimburse the travel costs for schools that bring fourth-graders to the site for field trips.

The monument is one of 186 federal sites to receive a grant from the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks.

The grant is part of the foundation’s Open OutDoors for Kids Program.

National Park Foundation grants have made it possible for more than 400,000 students to visit national parks and other public lands and waters.

Homestead National Monument of America will distribute the grant on a first-come basis.
