AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Several of Maine’s winter hunting seasons are over for the season, though seasons for some small game animals will remain open for several weeks.

The seasons for raccoon, skunk and opossum all ended on Thursday. The regular season for gray squirrel also ended on Thursday, though there is a special falconry season for the animals until Feb. 28.

The season for snowshoe hare runs until March 31, except on Vinalhaven Island, where it ends on Feb. 28. The season for bobcat runs until Feb. 14 and the fox season goes until Feb. 28. There is no closed season for coyote, woodchuck, porcupine or red squirrel.

Some gamebird seasons also ended on Thursday. Hunters are advised to check with authorities before hunting.
