SEATTLE (AP) - Light rail will go a lot further in Seattle in the New Year.

KING-TV reports (https://is.gd/CtYXO0 ) two new rail stations are near completion and commuters will soon be able to go from downtown Seattle to the University of Washington in about eight minutes.

Seattle’s light rail currently runs through downtown Seattle to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new stretch of rail lines will travel across Capitol Hill and to the University District, carrying passengers through subway tunnels.

Sound Transit says they are putting the finishing touches on the stations and have been sending practice trains through the tunnels. Sound Transit says it will announce an opening date within the first few weeks of the year.

In another six years, Sound Transit will take people by light rail to Northgate Mall.
