EASLEY, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio is starting the new year with stops in South Carolina, though one planned event was canceled.

The Florida senator was expected to start his campaign stops Saturday in Pickens County, with a meet-and-greet at Mutt’s BBQ in Easley. But it was canceled shortly before his scheduled appearance. His spokesman said he had airplane issues. Rubio apologized in a tweet.

He was next scheduled to campaign in Hilton Head Island High School’s gym. The event had been planned for the school’s performing arts center but was changed to accommodate more people.

As his final public event of the day, Rubio travels to Lexington. There, he will make a stop at Hudson’s Smokehouse BBQ, a regular stop for candidates seeking to win South Carolina’s GOP presidential primary.
