ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a woman died and a man was severely burned in a fire at a home in northwest Atlanta.

Local news media outlets report that 68-year-old Daisy Thomas died in a fire around 2 p.m. Friday. Thomas’ husband, whose name has not been released, was able to escape the blaze but received serious injuries.

Witnesses say they saw the man running out of the house with his clothes on fire. The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and is in the intensive care unit.

Investigators tell The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that there were no working utilities in the home. Firefighters say the couple was using a propane-fueled heating element too close to the couch.
