ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two suspects accused of fatally stabbing a man who attempted to stop a car burglary in Albuquerque last month have pleaded not guilty.

KOB-TV reports that Tyler Hernandez and Craig Whited were ordered held without bond Friday by a Bernalillo County District Court judge.

Albuquerque police say Hernandez and Whited were burglarizing cars on Dec. 26 when 55-year-old William McKinley confronted them.

According to court documents, Whited told police that Hernandez fought McKinley and then stabbed him.

Both men were arrested on Dec. 27.

They were indicted Jan. 14 on second-degree murder with an alternative of first-degree murder, as well as other counts of aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, larceny and conspiracy.

Whited also was charged with threatening a witness.
