39 PYTHONS CAUGHT SO FAR IN FLORIDA’S PUBLIC SNAKE HUNT

A cold snap may be giving humans an edge early in a state-sanctioned hunt for elusive Burmese pythons in Florida’s Everglades. The first monthlong python hunt on state lands in 2013 netted 68 of the snakes, the longest measuring over 14 feet long.

POLICE: NO GUN FOUND AFTER OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Tom Hackney said Friday the officer claims 26-year-old Dwight Hastings was armed with a pistol when he was shot. Hackney said police have not yet found a gun at the scene, only a folding knife that looks like a pistol that was still in the car.

FAMILY SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR THEME PARK TICKETS FRAUD

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Orlando reported in a news release Friday that Eileen Hightower, her two children and a niece were ordered to pay more than $107,000 in restitution. Hightower was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison. Her children, Samuel Velasquez Jr. and Sabrina Velasquez, were sentenced to three years in prison, as was her niece, Jennifer Cancel.

John Karl Tuxford was found shot five times in his vehicle Tuesday afternoon, and Jordan Finlon was found stabbed more than 30 times less than an hour later in northern Manatee County.
