BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The Bismarck Park Board has voted to move ahead with an $8 million expansion to Schaumberg Ice Arena.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1SBiTX1) that the move comes after supporters raised $3.7 million in private money to augment Park District funds.

The project will add a second sheet of ice and other amenities. Fundraising co-chairman Justin Theel says more ice is necessary because demand for ice time in the city is “bulging.”

A design firm will be selected next month and construction could start in late summer. Officials hope to complete the expansion by fall 2017.
