WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) - A businessman has won a Republican congressman’s endorsement in the crowded race for former House Speaker John Boehner’s (BAY’-nurz) western Ohio seat.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (https://cin.ci/23hYY38 ) reports U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan endorsed Warren Davidson, of Troy, on Thursday. More than a dozen other Republicans are vying to succeed Boehner in the 8th congressional district.

Jordan chairs the House Freedom Caucus and says the group of about 40 conservatives will do whatever it takes to get Davidson elected. He says a lot of people are running for the position, but calls Davidson the “right guy for the situation.”

The primary election will be March 15. The special general election vote will be June 7.

The district covers Butler, Preble, Darke, Miami and Clark counties, and part of Mercer County.
