LINDENHURST, N.Y. (AP) - Residents in several Long Island communities were bracing for the possibility flooding ahead of this weekend’s snowstorm.

Long Island is under a blizzard warning until Sunday afternoon. Forecasters are warning of widespread coastal flooding and significant beach erosion.

In Lindenhurst, a south shore community where some are still struggling to recover from 2012’s Superstorm Sandy, a contractor was putting sandbags around a garage. The newly built home that faces the Great South Bay replaced one destroyed in Sandy.

Others were moving items in their garages to higher ground.

One resident, Bob Britton, said he and many neighbors were moving their vehicles further north, away from the bay.

Britton says he’s hoping the storm will pass quickly.

He says: “Hopefully its one day and it’s over.”
