MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Middle Tennessee has hired Tony Franklin as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach after he coordinated California’s offense the last three seasons.

The school announced Franklin’s hire Friday. The move is pending full approval by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Franklin guided a California offense that featured probable first-round draft pick Jared Goff and set several school single-season records in 2015. California ranked eighth among all Football Bowl Subdivision teams in total offense and 17th in scoring.

Franklin replaces Buster Faulkner, who is now the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas State.

Franklin previously worked as Middle Tennessee’s offensive coordinator in 2009. He also has been an offensive coordinator at Kentucky, Troy, Auburn and Louisiana Tech.
