WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Postal Service is closing post offices early in Washington, Baltimore and all of Maryland due to an approaching winter storm.

The agency said in a statement that all offices in the Baltimore and national capital districts will close by 3 p.m. Friday. Collection from sidewalk mailboxes, homes and businesses will end by noon in the Baltimore district and 3 p.m. elsewhere.

Baltimore District spokeswoman Freda Sauter says she expects services to resume Saturday, weather permitting.

National Capital District spokeswoman Theresa Doherty says it’s not clear when services there will resume.

The National Weather Service says more than 2 feet of snow could fall across the region from Friday afternoon through the weekend.

The postal service says customers should clear snow around curbside mailboxes so carriers can reach them.
