BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say the adopted teenage son of a Burlington city employee is charged with first-degree murder in the man’s death.

Multiple media outlets report that Alamance County deputies found the body of 36-year-old James Weston Goswick on Thursday in his garage. Deputies went to Goswick’s house after a man who said he was a co-worker called authorities to say Goswick hadn’t been to work for several days.

Sheriff’s spokesman Kirk Puckett says deputies found three people inside the house, and two people were questioned and released. They say Goswick’s 17-year-old adopted son has been charged with murder. The Times-News of Burlington reported that the sheriff’s office had originally identified the teen as the man’s stepson.

The state medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
