IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa City man who has been charged with using a plastic gun to rob a bank now faces charges of calling in a bomb threat to a school on the same day.

The Iowa City Press Citizen (https://icp-c.com/1SBV2GD ) reports 30-year-old Clifton Rayner Brinkmeyer was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a bank robbery that occurred about 20 minutes after a bomb threat was phoned in at West High School.

Brinkmeyer was initially charged with second-degree robbery. He’s now also charged with threat of terrorism.

Iowa City Police Sgt. Scott Gaarde said Friday there is a reasonable assumption the bomb threat was connected to the robbery, but police are still investigating whether the threat was intended as a distraction.

Brinkmeyer’s attorney didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
