ORONO, Maine (AP) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture is giving the University of Maine nearly $12,000 to research potato and grain agricultural systems.

The money is from the USDA’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative and it will support investigating climate resilience strategies. U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King say the money will help strengthen Maine’s agricultural sector.

Collins, a Republican, and King, an independent, say the money will help University of Maine researchers to develop “cutting-edge science and technology” that grows the economy in the state.
