FAIRFAX STATION, Va. (AP) - In the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, a St. Bernard comes running to rescue characters caught in drifts of snow. During the weekend blizzard, the roles were reversed.

Firefighters in Fairfax County rescued a St. Bernard that had fallen through the ice in a frozen lake Friday night.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reports that the accident occurred at Woodglen Lake in Fairfax Station while the dog’s owners were out sledding.

Firefighters rescued the dog, which was trapped about 30 feet from shore, and placed him a medic unit to warm up.

The dog was not injured.
