LEMITAR, N.M. (AP) - A man with outstanding warrants in California and Washington state has been captured by New Mexico State Police.

Authorities say 35-year-old Paul Richard Foster is being held after he was found with a stolen vehicle on Thursday in Lemitar.

A New Mexico State Police officer had detained Foster at a truck stop when the suspect allegedly took off in the police vehicle.

State Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Armijo says a 2-mile pursuit ensued with shots fired by the officer.

Armijo says Foster crashed the car and surrendered without incident.

She says a search warrant turned up two stolen firearms in the vehicle Foster was driving.

He faces multiple charges including aggravated fleeing.

Authorities say he has felony warrants for burglary and firearms possession in California and one warrant out of Washington.
