STOWE, Vt. (AP) - The 42nd Stowe Winter Carnival is continuing this weekend with an ice carving competition.

Professional ice carvers will compete in the National Ice Carving Association-sanctioned event Saturday with the theme of “All Things Frozen.” The competition takes place at Stowe Mountain Resort’s Spruce Peak plaza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. An awards ceremony follows at 7 p.m. at Doc Ponds bar and restaurant.

There’s also free skating at the ice rink at Spruce Peak from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, as well as the “Fire and Ice” Rail Jam for skiers and snowboarders at the Midway base lodge at Stowe Mountain Resort Saturday afternoon.

The winter carnival runs through Jan. 30 with various events.
