PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against a man accused of beating a New Jersey couple in their southern New Jersey home last month.

Atlantic County prosecutors say Nicholas Abbati also faces weapons charges stemming from the Dec. 23 attack inside the Pleasantville home of Jahlil Hunter and Ebony Harris. Hunter suffered blunt force head injuries and died nearly two weeks later, while Harris remains hospitalized in intensive care.

A motive for the attack has not been disclosed.

Abbati remains jailed on $1 million cash bail stemming from an unrelated incident in Monmouth County. The charges in Atlantic County were filed Friday.

The 26-year-old Egg Harbor Township man could face a life sentence if convicted on the murder count. It’s not known if he has retained an attorney.
