BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a Bismarck police officer fired his gun at a driver and injured the man after he refused to leave a vehicle and drove toward the officer.

Bismarck police say the shooting happened as officers were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle out of Mandan just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle fled the scene and was later stopped by officers in Emmons County.

Police say the man was found to have two gunshot wounds and was flown to a Bismarck hospital. They say he has not yet been identified.

The North Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation was called in to investigate the shooting, and the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
