PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a carjacking spurred a police pursuit in northern New Jersey that ended with one officer injured and another firing a shot that didn’t hit anyone.

Passaic police say the carjacking occurred around 7 p.m. Friday. An officer soon spotted the vehicle and chased it along Route 21 South. The pursuit ended when the car crashed near the entrance to Route 3 East.

One officer fired a round at the three men in the carjacked vehicle but no one was hit. Another officer was injured when his cruiser hit the car.

Authorities didn’t identify the officer who fired the shot.

The three suspects were expected to face numerous charges.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon.
