HAYMARKET, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a Prince William County man who had been out shoveling snow during the weekend blizzard.

Prince William County Fire and Rescue spokesman Matt Smolsky said the man had been shoveling snow Friday evening and collapsed while shoveling or shortly thereafter. He referred more detailed questions to police.

Police spokesman Jonathan Perok confirmed that a man in the Haymarket area died Friday night, but said there is no confirmation that his death is connected to overexertion from shoveling snow.

An autopsy will be conducted.

In Prince George’s County, Maryland, fire officials said a 60-year-old Fort Washington man died Saturday morning after an apparent heart attack while shoveling.

Doctors say shoveling snow can present a health risk to the elderly and those with heart conditions.
