EATON, Ohio (AP) - A state legislator from Butler County has won the endorsement of neighboring Preble County’s Republican Party in the crowded race for former House Speaker John Boehner’s western Ohio seat.

The Dayton Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1Qoebu1 ) state Rep. Tim Derickson received the endorsement over state Sen. Bill Beagle and more than a dozen other Republicans vying to replace Boehner in the 8th congressional district.

Derickson has garnered endorsements from state Senate President Pro Tempore Chris Widener and Ohio Right to Life.

Beagle has been backed by all three Darke County Commissioners and two Republican State Central Committee members.

The primary election will be held March 15. The special general election vote will be June 7.

The district covers Butler, Preble, Darke, Miami and Clark counties and part of Mercer County.
