PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) - Three people face charges following an armed carjacking that spurred a police pursuit in northern New Jersey.

Authorities say the chase ended with one officer injured and another firing a shot that did not hit anyone.

Passaic police say the carjacking occurred around 7 p.m. Friday. An officer soon spotted the vehicle and chased it along Route 21 South.

The pursuit ended when the car hit another vehicle near the entrance to Route 3 East later that night. One officer fired a round at the people in the carjacked vehicle but no one was hit. Another officer was injured when his cruiser hit the stolen car.

Authorities didn’t identify the officer who fired the shot.

Two Passaic men face carjacking and weapons charges, while a teenage suspect faces similar counts.
