SULPHUR, La. (AP) - A newly installed drug drop box in the lobby of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office’s West Cal Law Enforcement Center will provide area residents with an additional place to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications.

The drop box is the second of its kind opened by the sheriff’s office in the parish. The first location is in operation at the sheriff’ administration building in Lake Charles. Both drop boxes are funded through a grant from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

Kim Myers, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, tells the American Press (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) the Lake Charles location has been popular for people disposing of medications locally, but the goal was to expand the program.

Items that will not be accepted include sharp objects, any mercury or cadmium products and disposal medical waste items.
